Newspaper - The Malaya Tribune

The Malaya Tribune was an English daily, printed and published in Ipoh. Each edition cost 10 cents. The picture on the left shows the front of a 1945 copy of the Tribune; while the picture on the right shows the back of the Tribune. The headline of this edition reads as “Allies Prohibit Production of Arms and Munitions in Japan”. Among other excerpts from this paper are : “Death of Col Cecil Rae”, “Food Prices for Malaya” and “Mr Woods Back in Ipoh”, as well as the opening of the Isis and Capitol Theatre.
Also in this edition is a list of monthly rates of wages for civilian labour, approved by the military forces. For example : a baker earned between $25-$35 a month; a butcher, $40-$50; a watchman $20.
