These three photographs show, from left to right :

Colombo Camp,a mixture of tents and hutted accommodation. In the foreground can be seen the typical local laundry drying their items both on lines and on the grass. The camp was a great money spinner for the local laundrymen (known to the troops as "Dhobies". Similar dhobymen were popular in Silibin Road.

The women labourers in their Samfoo (Samfu) and pointed hats, busily constructing a new roadway in the camp.
