Suction Dredge At Rambutan Ltd, Tanjung Rambutan
Osborne and Chappel's Rambutan Ltd was an important mine in the Tanjong Rambutan area.
Founded in 1905, they introduced the suction dredge shown in this photograph in 1906. The dredge consisted of a gravel pump on pontoons, but it was unsuccessful and in 1913 a new pipeline was laid for hydraulic mining.
In 1929, Rambutan Ltd expanded by acquiring the property of Toh Kiri Mining Company Ltd.
