The Perak Museum, Taiping; was the brainchild of Sir Hugh Low (the British Resident in Perak) and began in 1883 in the former government offices. It was developed in stages and the museum’s collection grew. Hence, a two-storey block was completed by 1902. A vast number of the items on display were said to be from the collections of three Perak officers, namely : Sir Hugh Low (from all parts of Perak State), Mr Bozzolo (Upper Perak and Kelantan), and Mr Hale (Kinta). The books are said to be from Noel Dineson - the Superintendent of Lower Perak. On the grounds of the museum, there is a stone marking the site of J W W Birch’s assassination by Maharaja Lela as well as a statue of Colonel Walker.
An unknown building
These pictures were taken by Percival Moss, a tailor who sewed uniforms for the Malay States Guides and other military organisations.
