A Decorative Street Arch In Support Of The Kuomintang
A decorated arch erected in Hugh Low Street, in support of the Kuomintang, led by Generallisimo Chiang Kai Shek. It is believed to date from 1948. The arch was jointly sponsored by the Chinese Assembly Hall Membership and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. A parade also took part, and hundreds of spectators lined the streets to watch. In the parade were local Chinese organisation and schools. The arch is adjacent to the bridge and Rex Hotel (formerly known as the Foo See Hotel) and the People's Park and photographs of the occasion are also included in this archive.
