Remark : Born in 1883. Brother Paul Gallagher started his career at St Joseph’s Institution, Singapore in 1910, teaching there until 1919. He also served in the Brother’s schools in Taiping, Ipoh, Manilla and Penang, the latter being his longest posting as Director of St Xavier’s for 20 years.

Appointed as a short-term Principal to relieve Mr Morsingh, Brother Paul Gallagher took up the appointment as SMI Director on 11 August 1920. An Irishman he was accompanied by Brother Hermenegild John from Hong Kong and Brother Finian Loarn, also from Ireland. He was relieved by Brother Augustus in January 1921, They therefore formed the first community of La Salle Brothers in Ipoh: Later, in 1926, he was to return to SMI as the Brother Visitor in place of Brother Visitor James Byrne.

Although the first Brother Director, he is recognized by the school as the third Headmaster or Principal after Father Coppin and Mr Morsingh.

He passed away on 6 November 1972 in Mount Alvernia Hospital, Singapore, aged 89.
