Dulang Washers' Tools - A Tin Ore Scoop
Although it looks very 'homemade', this is actually a standard item for a Dulang washer, probably made by local tinsmiths.
The item was used to scoop up the tin ore, perhaps from a bucket, for further refining with water in a half coconut shell or a small dulang, or indeed for any task where a scoop was needed to collect the ore.
Simply manufactured from a sheet of tin, often cut from used tin containers, it was rolled to shape and fixed on to a split wooden handle with nails or staples. There was no standard size, but the one above measures about 32cm overall length.
We have two other similar scoops in our collection.
