Remark : Our donor sent us this item with the following comment :

"I was going through my old folders and filing things away and found this letter that I thought you might like. I am sorry I don't have the original, just a photocopy that I was given about 10 years ago from a cousin. I thought you might find it interesting."

The letter, hand decorated with photographs of Foo Choo Choon and John Addis, is signed by members of the Mining Conference of 27 September 1907 and carries more than a dozen signatures from the mining fraternity including Cecil Pearse, Warden of Mines Perak, William Cowan The Perak Protector of Chinese, the District Officer, J Wray, Eric Maxwell and more reads :

"We, members of the mining conference and others, after going all over Mr. Foo Choon's mines at Tronoh today, desire to express Our admiration for all we have seen.

We wish to place on record our great appreciation to the enterprise of Towkay Foo Choo Choon in departing from the normal methods of Chinese mining in the FMS and embarking upon, what at its inception was regarded locally as a rash undertaking.

We consider that he was fortunate in meeting with a man of Mr Addis' ability and perseverance and showed his sound judgement in placing entire confidence in him.

When a towkay of such enterprise is associated with a manager of such ability we are not surprised at witnessing the success of the venture upon which we congratulate them today.

Tronoh
27th September 1907"
