Estimated Year : 1958
Media Type : Photograph
Source : Ruth Iversen Rollit, UK
Remark :

The photograph on the left shows Ruth, the only European, in a classroom in the De Silva building branch of the Station Road Institute.

On the right she can be seen sitting on the extreme right of the group in front of the Gurdwara Road extension on her class graduation day.

Ruth recalls :

"I went to the Commercial Class of the Ipoh Tutorial Institute in the 1950's. It was on the first floor of the De Silva building in Station Road/Belfield Street (I think). Here I tried to learn Pitman's shorthand. You will see the only European pupil on both photos - that's me! My teachers were Mr Hong Thye and Chai Lok. The photo from our 'graduation' day is in front of what looks like a building designed by my father the architect B M Iversen, but a monstrous porch has been added."
