Sybil Kathigasu, recipient of the George medal for her services during the Japanese Occupation of Malaya succumbed to the injuries inflicted on her by the Japanese torturers, and died at St Mary's Hospital Lanark, Scotland on 12 June 1948, She was buried at the Lanark Catholic cemetery on 15 June 1948.

The photographs show the three floral tributes that were laid on the grave, one from Captain David McFarlane leader of the team that had rescued Sybil from the Batu Gajah jail in 1945, a cross from Dawn,her youngest daughter, propped against the wall and a third from persons unknown.
