JJ Series - The Second Ipoh Courthouse
This divided back postcard by Kronheim Printers, London, shows the New Courthouse as renovation reached completion. Kronheim & Co was founded by a German-born lithographer and wood engraver named Joseph Martin Kronheim. This postcard was part of what is known as the J. J. Series - most likely named after J. J. Kronheim (one of Joseph's grandsons). If anyone could confirm this, please let us know.
The New Courthouse was originally the home that Dato Panglima Kinta Mohamed Yusof was having built for his family when he passed away in 1903. Bought by the government and renovated it became the second courthouse to be built in Ipoh, the first being a more rustic wooden affair built in 1888.
Completed in 1909 this courthouse was soon replaced by a third courthouse in 1928, due to its location being on the wrong side of the railway lines of the grand, new, railway station and hotel, completed in 1917.
