Remark :

The seventh stage of the operation of dredging for tin is shown in the photograph.

The jigs routinely require cleaning or re-dressing to remove the pebbles that were not washed away. In this photograph the holes in the jig screen can be seen through which the pulsators continually push up and suck down the ore and waste, allowing the ore to pass through the holes to the sump below. The pebbles generally remain in the jigs, while the sand, mud, clay and gravel being lighter, get pushed up and carried away with the main flow of water over the jigs. They continue along the sand chutes to be dumped in the tailings area to the rear of the dredge.
