Remark : These three photographs were donated by Sybil de Roquigny, great granddaughter of Towkay Leong Fee and daughter of Margaret Vivian Leong Foong Leng. Sybil's maiden name was Sybil Wong Sui Mei. She described the photos, from left to right, thus:

  • "Mr and Mrs Michael Wong - Margaret Vivien Leong Foong Leng and Michael Wong Kok Sang (Sybil’s parents) on top of the Kinta River embankment, just above the Leong's house at No. 8, Clayton Road, Ipoh. This was the third house at the corner of Belfield Street and Clayton Road, around the corner of the FMS Hotel. It has since been torn down to accommodate the widening of the road. In fact, if I remembered well, it was a cul-de-sac."

  • "The Leong sisters: Joyce Leong Yin Leong, Linda Leong Kam Leng and Margaret Vivien Leong Foong Leng with her husband Michael Wong Kok Sang at the bottom of the steps of the Kinta River embankment, in front of the Leong’s house in Clayton Road."

  • "Michael Wong Kok Sang and his daughter, Sybil, on the steps of the Kinta River Embankment.

Across the road from No 8 there was a Malay house which was used later as a metal junkyard. The house was on the side of the Masjid (Shaik Adam's mosque)."

  • Aaron Ong offered an alternative description of the Malay house:

"Not really a metal junkyard. It was more like a workshop to repair lorries. Used to wait in front of this house for my schoolbus back in 1980."

Linda Leong Kam Leng is the fourth daughter of Chow Yoon Soo and Leong Eng Khean. She never married and lived mainly with her sister, Margaret Leong Foong Leng.
