A View Of Station Road, Ipoh
The picture shows a view of Station Road, Ipoh. It can be seen that there are many rickshaw pullers on the street as it was the most popular mode of transport then. The rickshaws would be mostly Malayan made and by this time with the benefit of locally made rubber tyres.
During the peak years from 1907 and thereafter, many stylish buildings were built in this road, including those of major companies, for example:
Dr Connolly was an Irishman trained in Trinity College and recruited to Malaya on government service. He then went into private practice, became an editor of the Times of Malaya and founded the Perak Anti-Opium Society.
